22 MONTHS

-Started going down the front steps with no hands and no help... because he didn't want to put down his toys!

-Getting pretty good with his Cheater Chopsticks!

-We play hide and seek with the toys in the bath bubbles and under boats etc.  We hid a toy once, and he asked me where it was.  I looked under one of his legs as a joke.  He thought it was hilarious!  So after hiding the next toy - between fits of giggles - he checked under his left leg 'noooo', then checked under his right leg 'noooooooooo', then checked under his 3rd leg 'nooooooooooo'.... I could not control myself! I Totally lost it on the bathroom floor until I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe!

23 MONTHS

- Daddy has been teaching Oakley how to Beat-Box (The musical sounds that rap artists make with their mouth really close to the microphone).

- Oakley has a little music/percussion Egg that makes a sand-shaker sound.  He brought it to me and said 'Open Mom'.  But you can't open it.  It's just a music maker.  'No. Birdie In. Open Mom. Baby Birdie In Egg!'

- We desperately wanted to sleep in on a weekend, and Oakley came in our room at 7:05am.  We told him to look at the clock - see, it's not morning yet.  Just lay down and sleep until it's 8:00.  When you see the 8 - then it's morning.  so he lay down beside us.  Minutes later he popped his head up to look at the clock and said '8! oh! good morning!'.  Confused, I looked at the clock - there was an 8 all right!  it was 7:18!!  I guess we have to be more specific next time about where the 8 has to be on the digital clock!

SIGNING TO THE RESCUE!!

Having Laryngitus all week sure gave me a new appreciation for signing!  Wow!  I was still able to tell Oakley what I wanted him to do, or ask him questions, etc.  He often repeated out loud with words what I just told him in signs!  I've always known that teaching Oakley to Sign had many great benefits - but until this experience, I never imagined it would be ME that needed it!

Sometimes when we are looking at a page with the alphabet and I point at 'K' and ask 'what's this'.  If he gets it wrong, I just show him the sign and he says 'oh! K'.  Or he will point to a capital 'N' and say 'Zed' (pretty close - just sideways)... and I sign 'No - N'... and he says 'oh! N'.
We continue to learn more new signs each week!

DAYHOME CHANGES!

On January 2nd, Oakley started at a brand new dayhome that had a 2 year old boy, a large dog that loved kids, and a massive back yard.  they played like best friends and went outside everyday!  Oakley was starting to pick up French from this bilingual caregiver within only 2 days!  We were thrilled!  Then on January 5th I got a phone call saying the dayhome was shutting down!  She got pregnant and was deathly ill and dizzy - and with her first pregnancy, that lasted all 9 months! What a dissappointment! What a predicament!  It took me 1.5 months to find that replacement dayhome!  Now I had to find someone new over the weekend!  But it happened!

The agency gave me the number of a grandmother with 18yrs dayhome experience who was strict and had lots of potty training experience!  Yay! And by chance, Dianna's husband is bilingual - and is home in the mornings to speak a little French with him!  Dianna also tries to share some french that she remembers.  And what a great place for Oakley!  Dianna has helped us make some great advancements with Potty Training!

POTTY TIME BREAKTHROUGHS!

The first Breakthrough Dianna made was getting him to actually sit on the pot for more than 2.4 seconds at a time!  In fact, after a few days, he would sit there happily for up to 15 minutes! Amazing!  Her Secret?  STORY BOOKS+FREQUENCY!  So at home we moved a box full of story books into the bathroom!  But still no luck depositing anything into the potty.

After a couple of weeks, Dianna said 'That's it! I've had enough with these pull-ups!  We're using Training Pants!  If that doesn't work, we're just going to wait a month and try again later.'  And on the very first day of Cotton Training Pants, he had success!  We even had some success at home over the weekend!  And even more over the next week back at Diane's!  So we were averaging 1 success per day (none some days and 2x on other days, etc).  He'd be quite proud - Saying 'Me Pee Potty'!!!!

Then I borrowed 2 DVD's from the Library one Friday Night: Elmo's Potty Time, and Bear and the Big Blue House (had 3 episodes, first was about potty time).  We watched one on Friday night, and while the 2nd one was on Saturday morning, he pulled his potty in front of the tv and peed along with the show!  In fact - he had 4 pees and one poop all in one day!  Sunday morning Oakley woke up, came into our room and said 'me pee potty please'  - so we took him, he sat down, and peed! YAY!

Now every day is different since then... And we've got a long way to go!  but we've made major advancements that We are very pleased with!
